A weekend update...... a little late.

What a weekend I had! Daughter is down sick and so I have been home. We did not do much. Wanted to go to a movie at the theater, but her coughing stopped that idea. Hubby and I watched a DVD called " Secretariat". Based on a true story of a racing horse. We really enjoyed it.

The weather here was hot in the high 90's and 100's. I feel like we live in the midwest! Transported to Arizona or Nevada! So We did go swimming in the pool. The grass got mowed. I made some ice cream with my new ice cream maker. My new kitchen gadget, I haven't got one in a long time.

Payed attention to the decision on the Debt ceiling. You see it will affect us greatly. Hubby is retired military, he works for the government and I am a disable veteran so, as you can imagine it will stop all our income if they do not pass the bill. So, everything is on hold for us now. I think this is crazy. New folks in the government just do not see the impact this will cause, since it will not affect their pay. I think it should, since the people are paying them also. If there is no money to pay us then why should they get paid? They make way much for their seat then we do! This is not just about the foreign bills. I think this is going to be a different world with these politicians for the next few years. Change sometimes can be very hard.

We have tickets for a water park that are good for the next few months. I think we will be trying to use them. As well as I will try to find free things to do. That reminds me of my childhood. Mom use to find all kinds of things to do for free.

Today it is going to be a hot one again. So I think swimming is on the list of things to do. Stay cool if you can.

Iceland Anyone? Woke Up to an Icy Day.

Our Tuesday has Begun with an Icy Sheen. The roads looks like a frozen stream. School are closed, No traffic in sight and the feeling of winter has filled our minds. Have often wondered how it would be to living in Iceland, or doing some Ice fishing. Have you gone ice fishing?

Last year we had a touch of the North pole. Snow three to four feet deep and no Road insight.
This is a photo of that time. Yes there is a road beyond that mailbox, only no one could drive on it. It was a week before we could get out!
Now this is how it looks this morning. I waited until the sun came up a little.

So this is a good day For French Toast, Hot cocoa and sitting by the Fire playing Cityville.

French toast.
(to view the recipe click on the name above.)

After all in Bloggersville (the name of my town) I am Mayor. There is rent to collect, crops to plant and harvest, Ships to send out and unload, buildings to finish and new one to plan for, land to purchase, meeting in other towns and stores to stock. Oh this land of cyberspace has created a great Game! But of course I do have housework to do and real bills to pay and people to talk to. As well as meal to plan. So as you can see I will be quite busy on this Icy/cold day.
What are your plans for today?

This is part of Ruby Tuesday. It is a meme that one with Ruby photos can be link to.

Friday's Question- Winter , Summer or Spring

Woke up this morning to a dusting of Snow. Now I really mean a dusting, every thing looks like this. The temp outside is 23F, so I guess that means icy roads. Cause schools called for a two hour delay.
Our winter is starting out Cold with very little snow. The folks South and North of us are getting hit hard. Now I love the Snow and like winter to have it. Looks like we will not be getting much this year. So can I ask a favor of you?

Tell me How is your weather today? I know some of you are in Summer are maybe even Spring like rains. So tell me "What's the Weather in Your Neck of the world?" Oh yes and please say what area you live. I just might want to take a trip there this winter!

Monday's News-Weekend Update

What a Hot weekend! Our weather temps were in the triple digits.Staying cool was the number one thing on our Weekend plans.
Friday we did some swimming in the pool. We went out to eat, tried a new restaurant called The Grill. You know how those TV shows tell you what some food joints do to your food? Well this was one like that. First we were seated by the cook and prep area. Waited about 4 minutes before we saw our server. The place was pretty busy. I notice that the lemons and garnishes were in metal containers by the prep area. Saw all kinds of hands going in that container. I decided not to use my lemon! Later I notice the food being piled in an area to be given out to servers. Someone whom I believed to be the Owner/Manager was standing there checking out the orders. He was throwing things on the plates, looked like garnishes, from those metal containers. Then I saw him wipe his hands on his pants. He did this procedure every time he garnished a plate. There were some damp cloth towels by the area on a table. He would pick one up to wipe the sides of the plate, then throw it back on the table and repeated as needed with the same towel. Oh I just lost my desire to eat there. Our food was not that great either. We will not be going back there to dine.
Saturday was even hotter we got up to 103 degrees! The pool temp was at 88 and that felt good. Put the Fountain up in the pool, that cooled the air around us. We decided not to cook inside or out. The Grill was too hot to touch. I made some Green sun tea. Stay in my bathing suit must of the day. There is a Chinese place near by, so we placed an order for delivery. Later Hubby and daughter went for a walk in a shopping Mall, getting in that exercise. We are all doing well in our loosing weight plan.
Sunday, Church service was great. The Minister spoke about Idols we have in our lives, how they creep in, why we have them and how to start ridding ourselves of them. This is a four part series, you can listen or watch the first three Here at this link. It made me think about the first time I had to lose a lot of weight, I will write about that on my Fitness Log later today.
After church we went to Denny's to eat. It is still a great place to dine, all four of us eat for under 25.00 total!
Came home and the kids played an old video game. Do you remember the game station Atari, it came out in the early 80's. Was the first computer type game for your TV. It had all the games one would find in the Arcades at fairs and boardwalks. Like Centipede, Asteroid,Maze Craze and more. The one we have we purchased some years back. It is Called Atari Flashback 2, has 40 games stored in the console. We use to play it for hour in the 80's. My Mom loved the Centipede.
Later our daughter met up with a friend to go on a week vacation to the Eastern Shore. Hubby and I went to see Salt at the movies.I really enjoyed that movie, you can check out my review at Auntie E's Reviews(see side bar for link).
We did have a very bad Thunderstorm in our area around 3pm. It took down trees, killed a few people and cause havoc on the Mall in DC. This heat just brought the storm up and I believe that the national weather people did not see it coming. Hubby and I heard it while in the theater, sounded very bad. I heard that the Airports on the eastern seaboard grounded all planes during the storm. Heard there was a tornado spotted. However not sure if it touched down in our area. However the winds were wicked, uprooted trees and toss them onto the highways, moving cars, and homes. What a mess to clean up. It will take more than a day to do that clean up!
How was you weekend? Any exciting News for me?

Monday's News-Our Town

We had some interesting Weather in our town. As I have been stating the temps have been very summer like. Living on the east coast we are use to some temperature fluctuations. All the seasons are experienced here. Last winter we had some bad snow storms, even got to use our snow shoes in our town. That was very surprising. Our town looked like the North Pole for over a week!
Now that summer is here, we are having a heat wave. Our pools' water temp is a steady 85 degree Fahrenheit without the solar heater installed! Air temp has been in the 90 to 100. Swimming as the only way to cool of outside. I live in the bathing suit.

We have been going to movies and to the Mall to do our walking. This weekend we went to see The Last Airbender in 3D. Have seen both movie formats now, 2D and 3D. I think they both were okay. Not too impressed with the 3D. Compared the Avatar 3D, Airbender was just okay. Did get to see The Sorcerer's Apprentice with hubby. We liked the movie. I will be doing a review on it later at Auntie E's Reviews.

Back to the Weather, the evening thunderstorms have been increasing as the heat rises. Last night we had a very bright and loud one. It started about 11pm and rolled in with a fury. Lasted about 45 minutes with no power outage this time. Now I know that pool is topped off! Isn't Mother nature great, saving us money on our water bill?

Well all in all Our town has been giving a taste of the North Pole and the South West weather. I like them both, Now this is what I call a real season change. It's the kind I remember as a kid living in the Up State New York area.

How was your weekend?

Summer Daze #1-- Staying Cool?

Our heat is still in the triple digits and the pool is cooling us off nicely. Lemonade is a drink of choice, and Grilling out is a must. Trying not to heat the house up and keeping the house temp at 78 is the key to staying cool! What do you do to stay cool?

That's a "Ice Cube" in the pool..
A cool place to be on a hot day!
