Well, here it is the one to hear before the Mid-night hour....
Listening to the flashback Weekend On the Radio now. I awoke to the Mamas and Papas. I remember hearing them as I was growing up. The song "California Dreamin" is a very familiar one. It was their second song and the most popular one in my opinion. This group was a short lived one. Started in 1965 and last only 3 years. Personal problem in the group lead to their break up. They return for a musical reunion in 1971. The group won one Grammy in 1967 for the song"Monday Monday". Later in 2001 this song "California Dreamin" was given the "Grammy Hall of Frame Award". With Winter leaving us and I thought I would reminisce a little, How did we make at through the Winter Months.....
From left to right, top to bottom:
Oh I love this song, I heard it several years ago and feel in love with. Now Every year I must hear it over and over again.
Hubby remembers his mom singing this song to him. I sang it to my niece, hubby and daughter. It was a big hit in the theaters in it's time. Came from the Broadway show "Guys and Dolls". A classic even in today's time. I remember watching it in the theaters, at the movies and at School performance. Even preformed in it at my high school. We had a record that I played at home in the 60's, over and over again.
Mary Hopkin sang this song in 1968. Although it was first sung by the Limeliters in the early 1960, Mary is the one who made it popular. Her voice was a perfect match for the song. So Prefect that it was recorded by her on the Beatles Apple Label. Became the number 1 hit in the UK singles hit and the number 2 hit on the US billboard hits 100 and stayed there for six weeks! Others have tried to sing it, but in my opinion can not match up to Mary Hopkin. Perhaps it is because I remember that time and the song just resonates in my head with Mary's voice. It's Russian style music makes ones heart throb and you can not help but dance. The Lyrics speak of a past that seems to be slipping away. Maybe the time was not that great but the memories were.
Looking at old photos can bring back a flood of Memories. I love daydreaming sometimes of the days of old.Ev'ry time I see your face,
It reminds me of the places we used to go.
But all I've got is a photograph,
And I realise you're not coming back anymore.
I can't get used to living here,
While my heart is broke, my tears I cried for you.
I want you here to have and hold,
As the years go by and we grow old and grey."
Pat Benatar is one of my Hubby's Favorite singer. In the 1980's she had several hits. She's our age now and hubby saw her on a special. They look different now, Very Conservative, active Tea Party goers and only watches Fox news. All this according to hubby. She is still touring today. Here a song from the 1980's.
"Believe" is a 2004 song from the movie "The Polar Express". It was released in 2004 in theaters and Made a big hit. In following years Believe was preformed in School Orchestras and Adult Orchestra around the country. My daughter played at in Middle school with the Symphonic Orchestra, I loved it. Many fond memories flow back each time I here Josh Groban sing it. We have the movie and watch it each Christmas season.
I remember Karen Carpenter from the 1970s. This Christmas album was released in 1978. I thought I would start "My Season Favorites song Weekend" with her "Sleigh Ride" arrangement. I really like this song. It has been song by almost every musical artist, and still remains on the top 10 for Performance for Holiday songs by artist.
I thought I do something a little different for this weekend. Introduce some of you to Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass.
The Electric Light Orchestra were formed to accommodate a desire to create modern rock and pop songs with classical overtones. Originally from Birmingham, United Kingdom they became a hit in the USA in the 1970's. ELO had an idea to give their music a classical sound by combining cellos, violins, horns and woodwinds. They became pinned as "The English guys with the big fiddles". From 1971-1986 they traveled in concert. ELO's last performance of the century occurred on 13 July 1986 in Stuttgart, Germany. After that performance the band officially disbanded. In 2000 the band came back together for a brief time. George Harrison died in 2001 so the band once again disbanded. Although they are no longer together their songs still live on. On September the 2 of 2008 an eco-friendly repackage of The Essential Electric Light Orchestra called "Playlist: The Very Best of Electric Light Orchestra " was released.
This is my daughters pick. She is fifteen and a great girl. She wanted me to post this song. I had to ,of course, do some research. In 2003, he re-recorded the single as a duet with Mexican singer Paulina Rubio. Which was released in Mexico and Latin America to promote "Destination".
This brings back good memories. Dancing the Monster Mash and Halloween Parties. As a teen I went to mostly parties, did not do much trick-or-treating. I always loved this song during this time of year. The Monster Mash came out in 1962 it was co-wrote by Bobby Boris Pickett with Leonard Capizzi.
Pickett( pictured here) loved horror movies since the age 9. The Monster Mash song was styled as being by Bobby "Boris" Pickett and the Crypt-Kickers. Back in October 1965 ABC's Shindig! broadcast their Halloween episode and showed a clip of the Monster Mash performed by Boris Karloff. Jason at Scar Stuff remixed some of the filming and recreated this video.I liked this video because it had some old movie favorites and Boris Karloff is in it. Now that's a Halloween Icon!
