Here it is Friday again. I use to love the phrase T.G.I.F. (thank God its Friday). Back in the day when we worked Monday through Fridays and had the weekends off. In todays world, it seems that there are less folks with the Weekends off. With the new Technology, computers and cell phones, one is one duty 24/7! Even the folks who work Monday through Fridays are on call, linked to their computers and phones. Getting e-mails and text's all weekend long. Just not going physically into a place of work does not mean you mind is not at work. We use to call these folks Workaholics. Now it just keeping my job! since business are weeding out and cutting back. More time is required of the employee. with the underline tone of "ARE YOU LOYAL TO THE JOB!". You better be loyal nowadays, to avoid layoff or being let go.
So I was wondering.... How many of y'all have that Monday through Friday job with your weekend Untethered to your job?
If you do, tell me what's this weekend plans looks like?
If not well, just tell me what you would love to be doing this weekend?
Oh yes this is like research, I find the phrase to be obsolete, perhaps we should just delete it from of vocabulary. Because who can be thankful for being tethered to a Job 24/7. One need to take vacation and ban the computer and phone to be Free at last for the Job!

I work from home so I don't have to deal with all of that :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!

I am disabled so don't work. I wish I could, I miss it. However, my hubby has a job exactly what you described. It should be M-F but with today's technology, its now a 24/7 job. We will probably just stay home and maybe he can relax a bit this weekend.
ReplyDeleteI work for my church so Sunday is my true "go to work" day. I do a lot of admin stuff from home through out the work, but yes, for me during that day I am from 9 am - noon and then of course, sometimes on Saturday I find myself finding subs.
ReplyDeleteI'm a stay at home mom of 2 kids - a baby and a little boy. My job is taking care of them all day and night long. Good thing, I don't have to cook. Hubby brings us food from the school cafeteria he works at. Just do house chores.
ReplyDeleteI'm a stay at home mom, so I don't deal with the hectic work week schedule. And, my husband is a firefighter, so he doesn't work a traditional 5 day/week schedule either (he works 24 hours on/48 hours off). As for this weekend, my husband and sons are going duck hunting. I would like to take my daughter out for lunch and a movie.
ReplyDeleteI'm on disability, and a retired legal secretary although I do work at home. This weekend? No plans really except Sunday is band practice, so it'll be a little loud around here for a while. My hubby had his first gig with the new band this past Wednesday. It's fun to go see him at his gigs. Have a great weekend, and thanks for stopping by and following. I follow you too.
ReplyDeleteThis weekend I'd love to be frolicking in a beach somewhere, boldly wearing bikini.
ReplyDeleteI'm a SAHM so I'm on call 24/7.
Aloha!
No plans for the weekend. I think it is going to snow, making travel dicey.
ReplyDeleteI'm a stay-at-home mom who now gets 4 afternoons off per week while my 4 year old is in preschool. Cleaning the house is long overdue so I spend my time and weekends cleaning, decluttering, organizing and donating stuff. Starting to pay off, the house is finally getting some order to it :)
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean - regardless of whether or not we have out-of-the home paid jobs, having technology in our homes, cars, and purses has the ability to entrap and enslave us if we do not use it wisely.
ReplyDeleteLast week, I had a doctor's appointment, and afterwards, while waiting in the lobby during lunchtime for ten minutes, I watched the employees of a large office building head out for late lunch breaks. Every single one of them pulled out their cell phones at the elevators and started texting! A few did not lift their heads up the whole time I watched. I've also had people at my home whose cell phone went off (with work calls taken) the entire night (we're NOT talking doctors, policeman, or other emergency type personnel here!)
I've made some conscious decisions to keep my life simple (for example, only my husband has my cell phone number - I use it for emergencies, not for a phone away from home!) and this year, my goal is to simplify my life more. I'll be blogging about this topic throughout the year, so if it's an interest of yours, I invite you to keep your eye out for future posts!
Have a fab weekend. I hope to FINALLY find some time to do something crafty this weekend!
Hugs

I work from home so fortunately I don't have to deal with any of that. However if I do go back to work, I would probably be on call at least one weekend a month. I am a dietitian and if doctors ask for patients to be seen over the weekend, one of the staff dietitians has to see the patient within 24 hours. Plus, new admits that are at nutrition risk have to be seen within 48 hours. Typing all that out reminds me of why I am glad to no longer be working at the hospital :)
ReplyDeleteForgot to add, my weekend plans include grocery shopping and cleaning up the office. Highly exciting stuff LOL.
ReplyDeleteMy company is open 24/7 and I (usually) have a 4 on 4 off shift pattern, this weekend i'm off saturday and planning to do a bit of shopping and meeting up with friends then back in to the office on Sunday
ReplyDeleteWe don't have many plans this weekend. Thank heavens. :) I'm not up for much other than a looooooooooong nap.
ReplyDeleteMy weekend plans just got completely scrapped. So now I plan to sit at home and be lazy :)
ReplyDeleteWorking from home sometimes means working all the time. Not sure what this weekend will hold yet. I like surprises.
ReplyDeleteI work from home and tomorrow is my bi-monthly grocery shopping day...since Princess Nagger will be going with me, it'll take much longer than normal! ;)
ReplyDeleteSunday, though, I'll be helping out with the renovations of the Summer House. Bet you wish you were me! ;)

As a stay at home mom, I don't even get vacations or nights off, let alone weekends. Hubby usually has weekends off, but not tomorrow. My plan is to get the house clean and keep it that way for at least ten minutes.
ReplyDeleteVegas Baby!
ReplyDeleteI used to have that type of job -- where I was expected to be "on call" all the time. I burned out after many years of it. Now I stay home and work with our family business which is stressful in entirely different ways -- but at least I have the weekends more open to be with the kids! No vacations per se, but then at the job I would have been expected to be on call during vacations anyway!
ReplyDeleteThere really doesn't seem to be a "day off" these days! What would I love to be doing this weekend? Sipping a drink with a brightly colored umbrella in it, on the beach in Maui or someplace exotic like that. Sigh. The mere thought warms the soul!
ReplyDeleteI stay home and educate my children, so it's not a concern for me. :)
ReplyDeleteI am currently a SAHM! My kids are in school full time so blogging has become my job. I love it! This weekend it is a rainy so we have been trying to entertain ourselved by doing fun things at home!
ReplyDeleteI go into the office Monday - Friday, but check email & phone messages a couple times a day when I'm not there. Just the way it is, although I don't mind because I have a somewhat flex schedule.. which I LOVE!
ReplyDeleteHope you had a wonderful weekend & have a Great new week!!!
HUGS,
Coreen
