Monday's News- OktoberfestTime

Friday I hired a landscaper to do some work. We had a lot of damage due to last years winter snow storm. Our area had over 72 inches of snow fall in one week. Some bushes and plants were damaged because of the weight of the snow. Also the kids could not see them for weeks . This caused some trampling on them. We also have this Redbud brush that does not allow us to see the sidewalk when backing out. This year I broke my arm which cause me not to be able to do my routine garden work. Therefore some areas in the back year are out of hand and too much for me to catchup on this fall. That made it easy for me to decide to farm out the work. He will start today on this project.

Saturday the family went to the Oktoberfest on Post. The attendance was down this year. That really surprised me then maybe not. I had noticed through out our summer travels less folks out. Our economy is really suffering since the fall of the stock market. Even here Jobs and Business are dissolving. Our State has closed about 3000 businesses since the SM crash. So I guess folks are really tightening their money-belts.
Back to the Oktoberfest, the food was very good. I had the Nuremberg Platter, with three small wurst with German potato salad and sauerkraut. Hubby had Wienerschnitzel with sauerkraut and German potato salad. Now each side was different in taste. That's what is so great about German food. Each region has it's own flair on flavoring. Oh the music, of course German beer tent type. With the table in the traditional Blue and white cloths. This year they added a carnival to the festival. the Oktoberfest at post ending sunday so, I will have to see what happens next year with their attempts to make it more family friendly.

The weather was very hot again in the upper 80's close to 90's. No air-conditioning in the tent so, it really did not feel like Oktoberfest time. I just couldn't handle the heat. Off we went to the commissary for food shopping. Next weekend we are going to Oktoberfest in Germantown. I hope the weather will be more fall like. Looking forward to that trip.

Sunday was a rainy day. Later that day we went to the mall for some walking and then eat out a Chinese place. We hadn't been there in years and I mean years! the last time was over nine years ago. Their food was very good. My daughter remember going as a small child. The place has changed it's appearance.

How was your weekend and weather?

Now you never know when you will need that alibi...this is a meme that is just plain fun and you get to see what others do during their weekends. You can join in the fun too, visit Writers Cramps to check it out.

Aloha Friday-A New Look

Well I finally found a design I really like. Perfect for this fall season. It took sometime to find one. All my other sites got updated. This was the only one that did not. I might be playing with the color and text for a while , let me know how you think the reading is. Is it pleasing to your eyes, Do you need the text color to change somewhere on the blog? Your Input is important to me. I know sometimes when I visit some blogs I have trouble reading the text. Most of the time it has to do with the color selection. Designing a visitor friendly blog from the photo to the text can be hard. So Let me know if I need to change something.

So Here is the Question of the week:

Do you like the New look and Can you read anything on the blog page?

You can visit Kailani at An Island Life for more Friday Questions.

Monday's News-Family Time

So this past weekend we had my g-nephew and adopted niece with us. Our main outing was The National Aquarium in Baltimore. My family had been earlier this year and we purchased a membership. My thought was to take the kids to see the jellies and Dolphin Show. I was surprised to see an all new show and the jellies were different also. We saw Jellies that had what seems like lights in them, just amazing. I will be posting the video on Wednesday here for all to see. There were all different ones and thinking about it I can understand that. The life expectancy of the jellies are not long. Love that the Dolphin show was different. It makes going again fun. I think we will go again soon!
After the Aquarium we walk the Baltimore Harbor and had fun taken photos.Oh I must say the the NY Yankees were here in Baltimore for a game. So the Harbor and Aquarium as well as the Streets was crowded. Oh yes we lost the game in overtime.
Once we got home, hubby put a fire in the pit and we roasted marshmallows and the kids played on the swing set. We had our stadium light on. That's what we call them. Our lights are throughout the yard and makes it look like day time. It was great.

Later we watched "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian". The kids had never seen it and it was just as funny the second time for us. It is a great family movie and I guarantee that you will not view a museum the same after seeing it. I can't wait to visit the Smithsonian again.

On Sunday we took the kid to church and met up with my S-i-l and husband. We really had fun with the kids. After we got home we went to our community "End of Summer Jam". Saw some folks we haven't seen in a while. There was a booth there of a local artist who carves Santa's and other things. I spoke with them awhile , come to find out their shop is not far from us. I really liked their stuff. I will be visiting them soon. Only opened on the weekends and during the week by appointments. I will check with them about featuring their wares. I think most folks would love it. They are copyrighted so I have to get permission to feature them. However I will give the Site link at the bottom for you to visit.
How was your weekend, anything different or just the same things?

Aloha Friday-National Or Local?

Here we are another Friday. Oh I dream of being in Hawaii and taking it easy on Friday as Kailani says they do. So what I do here is Post Questions, nothing to hard. Leave your answer and then you can surf over to An Island Life to visit other Aloha Friday bloggers to find out what the buzz is with them.

So Today Questions:

Do you stay up on the News and which one, National or Local?
Do you Listen to Radio, Read Newspapers, Go online or Watch TV for your news?

I Listen to the radio in the morning, read online in the afternoon and watch TV local news at 5pm. I do not tend to watch national news on the Television. Mostly because I live in the tri-state area I get news from Washington DC, hear the President weekly address on Radio. So I feel the National News teams don't always give the correct info and they tend to make more out of simple news. Their spin on the new is sometime too much for me. Therefore I do not listen to them often. I'm mostly a local news girl. However I do listen to the Senate, Congress and Special Interest groups in session on the radio. That helps me stay up on what's happening in Government.

So now it's your turn to answer, tell me how you stay up on the happenings.

Monday's News-Festival and a Movie

We made it to the Maryland Renaissance Festival. Saturday was a gorgeous day. The weather was perfect, in the 70's with a cool breeze. We have not had much rain so the grounds were very dry and the dust was high. The Maryland and Pennsylvania Renaissance fairs are different. Their lay out and the entertainment are unique to each state. I would say that the Maryland has more kid friendly things to do. Also you will see more families dressed in period costumes there. There are more shops and it looks more like a village. Pennsylvania's is more like a traveling town with more stages. We always enjoy ourselves at the Maryland one. Oh.. it's the Shopping for me, Love their wares. This year I was into the Honey Pot. Shopped at a Honey shop, with local and exotic honey. Bought some Killer Bee honey made from Brazilian Killer bees. Good for the body and very tasty to me. I also purchased some Orange honey which is from a local Bee farm. They had so many to try, all with different taste. Now I will be creating recipes with honey used as a sweetener. The Maryland Renaissance Festival is located in Crownsville, Maryland, if one has a desire to attend you will surely enjoy it. They are open through October on the weekends.

Sunday at church we were able to see Critter and his family. Haven't seen them since our Canadian(NSL) trip. Our summer schedules were crazy, going here and there and having Summer fun. Made plans for next weekend with the kids, we will be going to the aquarium.

Our Minister was back from summer break, the sermon was on the goal of our church. Only one goal, to share the gospel of Christ to all people. We have many ways to achieve that. This has been the Goal since the Resurrection of Christ. Given by Christ Jesus himself to go into Jerusalem, Judah and into the four corners of the earth proclaiming the gospel and the fulfillment of scriptures. Teaching them the truth and the way to salvation. They started in their own town and those that heard carried it out to the world. If you can not or haven't been to a church in a while, there is an online live stream site. It is easy to get to , check it out Here. One can listen to short sermon clips to a thirty minute one. On Sunday there are 3 services broadcast 9am, 10:45am and 12:30pm EST. All these are live with music, like being there only in your own home. You will be able to chat with someone live if you have questions.

After we arrived home hubby and I went to the Movies. Saw The American. Not sure what to think of it. Will have to let it sink in before I write the review. Not your normal flick and truly an adult over 21 one.

Today I will be working on a room in the house. I am thinking of renaming it from the dungeon to something else, still pondering on that name. Will probably have a family pow wow to decide on it.

How was your weekend, anything special or just the ordinary stuff? What ever it was clue me in.

My Favorite Song Weekend- Fireworks with Music

While at Longwood Gardens last weekend we took in the Fountain and Fireworks display. This was a first time we attended this program. We loved it so much. Even my teen loved it. I remember as a kid watching fireworks displayed to the Boston Pops or Philharmonic Symphony Orchestras playing. Those were great memories of my childhood. I would say this rates right up there with new great memories. Next year I will diffidently have to take my Dad to this event.

Longwood Gardens is in Pennsylvania and is one of the largest working Fountain gardens in the USA. It's grounds cover 1,050 acres and is one of the Premiere botanical garden in the United States. I enjoy the Fountains throughout the park. Some of them are run with a music theme playing. The fountains dance as if a dancer is on the stage performing to the music. Then there are the one that are just running. Reminds me of European fountains Visited.

If you have never been to Longwood Gardens, you should put it on your list of things to do. I guarantee you will love it.

Aloha Friday-Last Stop Festivals?

Here we are headed into another weekend. Our weekends seem to be so busy. With school back in session and the summertime things winding up we just are running. Needing to get in on the final activities of summer. This weekend we are headed to another Renaissance Festival, this time in Maryland. Before long it will be time for the Fall Festivals to start. So here are my questions for you.

Do you have seasonal festivals you like to get to?
Which ones are on that list of "Can't miss that one this season"?

Link your Friday post here. It makes it easier to get to your site.

Don't forget to check in with Kailani over at An Island Life for more questions. She also has a linky to Link up your Friday question.
